Nautical Frame

This one was embarrassingly easy. Not to sure I even want to share it. Its pretty self explanatory. I needed something to display my cheesy look at me I am in my cap and gown and just got handed my diploma picture.

So off to Michaels I go with three kids in tow, and found a frame on clearance, it was HUGE, and white, but I liked the size because the wheels began to turn of all the things I could do to it.

Stripes. I have a stripe obsession. For real. All my shirts, stripes.

Teal/Aqua. My biggest obsession. So it wasn’t too hard to decide how I wanted the frame decorated. I already had this color spray paint from making the pom poms for my graduation party.

I went home to the kid’s house, and found painters tape in Dad’s tool box, it was wide painters tape, so wide it was.

I just eye balled and placed the tape where I thought it would look good. Again, I dont measure, and I am not technical. so, nothing ever comes out perfect but thats way I convince myself to like it.

I went outside and spray painted everything even the sides and inside. ( I took out the glass so there was no hassle)

For the stripe in the middle, I used the same piece of tape and ran it over the middle, and then after applied  I cut it in half and wrapped it. This was so the top and bottom stripe would be perfectly lined up.

So after it dried, I peeled the tape off and I was iN LOVE with the way it came out. So in love. that I didn’t want to touch it. the frame looked store bought, but better then when I bought it from the store!

But this was a nautical themed party so I decided to add an anchor, Again I got help because I am not a artist. so my i traced the anchor and my friend implemented, then traced it on the frame and painted it. I was going to add glitter or even my name at the top, but This always happens to me where I like the project I making and I do one more step and ruin the whole thing.

BUT NOT THIS TIME. this TIME WAS DIFFERENT. I left it. and I love it. and now it hangs in my room, kinda weird to have such a large picture of me, in my own room, but I really just love the frame and how it looks in my room so I think I will change out the picture soon.

Another on a whim craft… Guest Signing Canvas

So I liked the idea of making millions and millions of crafts for my grad party…. Apparently, because I couldn’t stop.

I wanted something that I everyone could sign, but not like you’re traditional friggin matted frame with a picture of you smiling cheesingly with your cap, gown and degree. (mostly because I already made another project with that picture).

When I got my IPad, I found this picture of an anchor that says The adventure begins, and it stuck with me because I liked it. So I brainstormed and brainstormed how I could incorporate this into a guest signing thing.

So I went to Michaels bought a two pack of cavases, because they were cheaper that way. I still have a blank canvas I plan on doing another fun activity with.

So I painted on the saying and had my dad help me paint trace the anchor. I am a HORRIBLE artisit/ drawer. My grandfather was an Artist for a living and I have many fond memories of taking art lessons in his studio every saturday morning, but I just never got the magic. I guess I use it in crafting.

I hung it up at the party on one of my papas old easels, and everyone signed it! I love it, its a great momento, and its the colors of room so I cant wait to find/ make the perfect frame for it and hang it in my room! :)

One of my favorite signatures if the one in spanish!

Homemade Bunting

So for my Anchor/ Nautical themed graduation party I decided that I HAD to have bunting.

I didn’t want paper, because I knew they would be hanging well into the night and the dew would kill them. I wanted fabric, this way I could re-use it, and even hang it in my room when I was done.

I searched through many tutorials and I hated them all. Yeah I have a sewing machine and yeah I took a sewing class in high school. but I didn’t feel like busting out the old sewing machine. Their had to be something easier.

Then I remembered a trick my moms uses because she cant sew to save her life… HEM TAPE.

So I ran out to Jo anns Fabrics, and picked up fabric squares, because I couldn’t be bothered having all the fabrics pre cut, I also am a cheapo when it comes to my craft projects and decided that my bunting wouldn’t have a back, like whats the point? The fabric I picked was just fabric I liked, lots of different patterns and all shades of blue with white and coral for an accent.

I also picked up DOUBLE FOLDED DOUBLE WIDE Binding. This is your BEST friend in this project. I picked teal and white, I got three.

I really wish I took pictures of each step, but I didn’t so you will have to imagine me just making this bunting , sweating my balls off over a hot iron.

So I get home and I am like how am I gonna cut this friggin fabric. I am not a technical person so I did what I also do, wing it. They were folds in the fabric and I just cut diagonally, and made triangles. simple as that. For people who need more instruction, this isn’t the place for you… haha

Then I cut the hem tape and put it all over the edges, hemming sides of the triangles but not the top, this gave it a hemmed look. I did it over, and over, and over again.

Lots of ironing, lots of peeling hem tape, lots of sweat. I even packed this project and brought it to Boston for the night, ironing int hotel room.

Then I arranged the patterns of how I liked all down the hall way and pulled out the Binding. I put hem tape on the sides of the top of the triangle, and then on the  bottom of the inside of binding. Confusing but you will figure it out.

So basically u sandwich the triangle in between the binding. and iron, iron, iron, you could sew. but who really wants to sew?

They came out beautifully and I really love them. I cant wait to hang them in my room, I have no upclose pictures, but I will take some as soon as I hang them in my room!

Here is blue and white bunting hanging from the deck.

ImageThere is other bunting you can see hanging from the tent.

Photo Collage Letters

Yes, I do more than bake, although thats really my passion.

As if I did not already have enough on my plate for my graduation party, I decided to add one more Project. I realized I needed to display pictures at my grad party but I wanted to do it a fun way!

I saw this and KNEW it was perfect

I would do the intials of my school. B.S.U. from all four years I attended.

I went on my IPad (because I was at work) and on my facebook gathered pictures I liked from all four years, saved them to my ipad and then changed them to black and white on a color editor app. From there I uploaded all the picture to a Walgreens App. From the Walgreen App I was able to send the prints to the store and make them available for pick up after I got out of work. Brilliant. I love getting paid at work to do my own projects :) The Walgreens app is a great idea, and no one else has done it yet, but theres alot of glitches and I dont recommend it if you are in a rush, and dont have the patience haha. They will get it right, and then it will be even better, but for those pics that are only on your ipad, its a great idea.

I went to Michaels to pick up the letters and Modge Podge. However I couldn’t find huge letters, so that was disappointing and then I knew that I would have to really cram the pictures. The letters were not big enough to collage the sides, and the letters came white so I painted them black.

I have a strong history in Modge Podge so I knew this would not be hard for me.

I would lay the pictures over the letters, flip over the letter and the picture, and trace on the back where the letter was then cut it out, and place on, it took a lot of finagling because my letters were so small and I had to cut out a lot of peoples faces, but I made it work. Then brushed modge podge on the back and stuck it on. I decided not to podge modge over because my pictures were a gloss finish, if they were a matte finish I would have sealed them on top with modge podge as well.

Success! Def a project I would recommend to previous modge podgers!

Lindsey’s Rocky Road Ting-a-Lings

I wanted to make a certain kind of dessert, and I knew what I had it mind so I did lots of research. As always I combined a few recipes, and added a little bit of my own flare.

For my grad party I was making lots of things, mostly things I did not have to bake, and things could freeze, so I could make then in advance, I dont have a picture of the actual cookies, but these cookies go under a lot of other names, Bird Nests, No bakes, the list goes on.

  • 2 Bags of Chinese Fried Noodles (Oriental Aisle in Stop and Shop)
  • One bag of Milk Chocolate Chips
  • One bag of Butterscotch Chips
  • One bag of Mini Marshmallows
  • One cup of  salted peanuts

Melt both bags of chocolate chips I did it in the microwave with a little bit vegetable oil as always. Then stir in noodles and peanuts. There are two ways you can do the marshmallows, and what I did was split the batter in half, Mixed in marshmallows to the warm mix  melted them and then waited for it to cool a bit and gently stir in marshmallows so they stay whole. Either way, they both taste great.

Spoon out one spoonful of dough onto wax paper, let cool, refrigerate, freeze, or keep at room temp. Doesnt matter they are delish.  and they are the only dessert that wasn’t left at the end of the party so I think they were pretty good.

Closest thing I have to a picture, my ting a lings are in there somewhere, here are the desserts that were served at my party.

Oriental Salad, Chinese ColeSlaw, Ramen Salad, Asian Cabbage

Whatever you call it, its delish.

Just discovering this dish this year I decided I needed the recipe. I looked far and wide for the perfect one, since the Start of the summer I can say Ive made this Dish a total of 6 or 7 times already and I have combined recipes and perfected my own. And listen just because it has salad in the title, doesn’t mean its healthy.

So here it is: Lindsey Ramen Salad, Oriental Salad, Chinese Coleslaw

  • One bag of broccoli coleslaw
  • One bag of coleslaw
  • 3/4 Cup of Vegetable Oil
  • 4 Tablespoons of Sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Packs of Oriental Ramen Noodles
  • Honey Roasted Soy nuts (I find them at Price Rite, but most recipes use sunflower seeds)

So combine Oil, Sugar, and Vinegar along with 2 Oriental Packets.

I then like to pour it over the coleslaw because I like my salad a bit on the soggier side. If you dont however, just make the dressing and put it aside for a few hours, because you know the golden rule is everything taste better after you let the flavors soak into each other.

Crush up the ramen noodles while you wait, I crush them right in the bag they come in, makes for an easy clean up. I leave them all different sizes small crunches and big crunches. its all good.

Pour soy nuts over the Salad, I know your all like HOW MUCH? But I dont have your answer, just pour them in until they look good, I love a good soggy salad with a big crunch so I use lots.

Overall this salad is JUST AWESOME. I get so many compliments on it and people are always asking for the recipe.
